Su Lan stiffened for a moment but turned back to see that Gu Jiaobei was still sleeping with his breathing steady and even. She was confused whether what had just happened was real or just an illusion.
After lying quietly for a long time and confirming that Gu Jiaobei was indeed asleep, Su Lan carefully lifted the blanket corner again before getting up to look for him. However, he pulled her closer, making them press more closely together.
"You didn't sleep?" Su Lan finally realized something was amiss and playfully tapped his high nose with a finger.
Gu Jiaobei slowly opened his eyes and looked at Su Lan before pulling her tighter again and closing his eyes once more as he softly said: "Stay here with me. If you move, I won’t let you out of bed."
Su Lan pouted and grumbled ‘so domineering’, then turned over to lie facing away from him. She fell asleep quickly due to the exhaustion from last night’s events; she had been so frightened that she barely slept for a couple of hours after waking up.
Behind her, Gu Jiaobei confirmed she was asleep and slowly opened his eyes. He gently moved her closer until she faced him, then hugged her, closing his eyes in sync with her breathing as he fell into sleep.
When Su Lan woke up, it was already very late. The side of the bed where Gu Jiaobei had been lying was empty. She sat up and searched for him but didn’t find him. Checking the time on her phone, she saw it was close to eight o'clock. She had slept for over four hours. Stretching slightly, she got out of bed and went looking for Gu Jiaobei.
In the corridor outside the ward, Mo Shaohan and a dressed-down Gu Jiaobei sat on a bench, chatting.
Mo Shaohan looked like he was just waking up from a hangover; his pretty almond eyes were hazy with a slight nasal sound as he smiled: "Can you be any more irresponsible? You got sent to the hospital in the middle of the night."
Gu Jiaobei gave a faint smile and noticed Mo Shaohan, looking back at him before closing his eyes again. "How are things with Jiaoxi?"
Mo Shaohan chuckled twice as he rubbed his nose, showing a hint of depression.
Their relationship was like this—no matter how big the argument, she would forget it by turning around, laughing and joking with him as if nothing happened. But he couldn’t do that; instead, he had to pretend everything was fine while continuing to be close to her.
After slapping Pei Feng, she was heartbroken and went drinking alone; but when she brought him back to her place the same night, she could laugh about it openly, enjoying his company as usual...
